MORE DONATIONS: Marryatville group thanks those who donated material for sewing peanut pillows for the WCH premature babies.
CHANNELLING Challenge: Our May meeting was very busy with a session on channel stitching/topstitching. Three of our group, Judith, Di and Sandie, between them covered many aspects of this technique. Judith put together notes that she had gleaned from the web, and illustrated them with examples (incl a gorgeous heirloom-style blouse). Di had made a sophisticated evening coat with a beautifully channel-stitched front edge. She used a difficult material that was slippery and shiny and black(with white backing) and consequently was able to discuss the trouble she had in getting ALL the lines of stitching even. We all joined in – a great learning session. Sandie then summarised her wealth of experience with this technique and passed around numerous wonderful examples, including combinations of topstitching and pintucks. Sandie also showed beading and topstitching where she had used a machine’s basic stitches and then beaded those stitches in a regular pattern to great effect. Congratulations and thank you Judith, Di and Sandie.
We had a display of garments etc from the last 50 years showing the effectiveness of top- and channel-stitching as a stylish trim. WoW!!
