Group Reports

Date posted - 03-09-2009 Northern Suburbs NG  -  August 2009.
At last the baby rugs for the Prem. Humi.  Cribs at KEMH have been delivered which gives our group a clear run at our next Charity Project in November of producing new clothing for the children at the Women’s Refuge as Xmas Gifts.
Also we will continue with our own personal projects, which over the last couple of months have included mastering Welt Pockets, Collars and Sleeves for some while others continue to fit the Toile Project.
We have also rejuvenated or re-modelled an old garment as a challenged and created a new Bag, Purse or Hold-All and embellished a wearable item to test the imagination .
Our group was also lucky enough to arrange our scissors to be sharpened and our sewing machines to be serviced as a group effort, a very beneficial exercise for all parties concerned.
Our next Monthly Challenge is to be a Kaftan so it follows through to the Convention that we are all preparing for.
At our meeting this month, we had a discussion and demonstration on Interfacings by Prue, (one of our long standing members) on their differences and uses for various situations and one very good hint Prue showed us was how to store them rolled on cylinders, either PVC or cardboard. Prue had one thin PVC pipe with black interfacing rolled on inside a wider cardboard cylinder rolled with the white interfacing, both the same type, pre-washed and  ready  for use. I thought that this was great organisation.
So ladies, next time you buy fabric and it comes to the end of the roll, ask for the tube, it is a much nicer and better way of storing your Interfacing, particularly if it has been Pre-Washed.
Almost time for Spring Cleaning and my Sewing Room is going to be first. How about yours ?
