Sew September

Sew September, National Sewing Month was launched by the Australian Sewing Guild in 2007, with an aim to share and further the art of sewing across Australia.  It is the month to celebrate sewing, and to acknowledge it's importance in our community.

Many Groups & Regions held special events and promotions for September.  Some of these are listed below:

Queensland

Darling Downs Region
The project suggested by Sewing Buddies Group was to make as many knee rugs as possible to be used in Nursing Homes.  The initial plan of a 2 day working bee, was extended for the whole month, as members from all the Groups, got behind this great project.  The Region has already finished 25 knee rugs and are still working on the last few.  The aim being to donate 10 knee rugs to each of the two local Nursing Homes, and to the Toowoomba Hospice.  This was a wonderful opportunity for all the Region's members to work on a joint project for the benefit of the sick and aged in the local community.

Bulimba Belles Group held a charity sewing event.  Special cushions, designed to help people being treated for breast cancer, needed to be sewn up, and the aim was to sew up seventy with fabric supplied pre-cut from a Zonta Group.  It was a successful day and all enjoyed the opportunity to help out.

New South Wales

Greystanes Group held a three day Sewathon.  This was a huge success with plenty of sewing and conversation, and all involved want to return next year.

Wollongong Group mounted a display at Corrimal Library, which included member's work and Guild information.

FROCKS Group always runs a themed meeting day in September. This year the sewing and creative focus was 'SCARVES'. 'Sharing & Furthering the Art of Sewing' is a constant goal and the combined group membership definitely shared lifetimes of experiences and expertise and all went home with a superbly sewn and unique addition to their wardrobe.

Victoria

Facing Group held an open meeting with members of the local Senior Citizens Group along with others invited for a 'cuppa and cake' and given a chance to look at a display of member's work.
