Each participant will be fitted into a blouse block to their measurements and suited to their shape.  Then a personalised block pattern will be created which will form the basis of future patterns and enable students to design their own garments.

Various methods for using the blouse block will be discussed, and pattern-making resources explained.

Blending patterns and dart rotation will also be explored.  A French dart, collar and shirt placket will be designed to work with the blouse block to create a complete blouse pattern.

PRE-WORKSHOP To make the most out of this class, students must purchase the Paxton Jacket pattern and fit a sample garment/toile prior to the start date.  Participants will be given access to an online course which will help with  fitting of the toile.  This online course also gives you access to Aneka for help and support should you not be able to complete your jacket in the 3-day workshop.

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION Make a leather jacket and learn first-hand how to speed tailor a professional looking garment.  The Paxton Jacket (from Made to Sew) can be made in your choice of leather, vegan leather or fabric.

The jacket is created using top quality professional interfacing, with the addition of shoulder pads and sleeve heads.  The jacket is fully lined and is constructed with a bagged lining technique.  You will learn how to sew a notched collar, attach a front zip fastening, introduce zip fastened welt pockets and zip fastened gussets on the sleeve cuffs.

During the course you will learn to understand the concept of speed tailoring and how you can apply these techniques to future garments.  The pattern is designed to be constructed from leather and therefore can be sewn without any hand sewing.  However, hand-sewing techniques may be adopted should individuals prefer.

SKILL LEVEL - intermediate level or above (i.e. able to confidently insert a zipper, comfortable working with chiffon-type fabric)

PRE-WORKSHOP PREPARATION - Catherine will provide a commercial pattern  for a simple straight skirt.  Using this pattern, participants must make a calico toile, with a zipper, and bring it to the class.

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION - In this 2-day workshop you will be adapting a straight skirt pattern into gored skirt, adding fullness to the skirt hemline with godets and attaching a petticoat at waistline.  You decide the number of gores, up to 12, to determine the fullness.

At the start of the workshop, you will make any adjustments required to perfect the fitting of the toile made earlier.  This will then become your block pattern.

From there you will jump into altering the pattern to create the gored skirt. Upon pattern completion you will then construct the skirt. The completed skirt will have gores with godets, and an attached petticoat. The skirt hem will be embellished with an overlocked rolled hem finish.
